IN A RELATIONSHIP WE HAVE LESS SEX – AND 5 OTHER TRUTHS ABOUT OUR SEXUAL LIFE
8 November 2021
The frequency of sexual intercourse decreases for those who are in a relationship, but on the other hand intimacy brings better sex. See what research reveals about our sexual behavior.
Sexual intercourse is synonymous with our existence and, given the long history of the human species, one would say that all issues around sex will be exhausted. But it seems we are still learning new things.
Last year, a number of studies were published that uncovered unexplored aspects of this human activity. Read the six most important topics we discovered last year:
1. Women still find it difficult to express themselves in bed
A 2019 survey, published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, found it very difficult for women to talk openly about their desires during sexual intercourse: 55% of women surveyed said that despite their desire to communicate with their partner what excites them and how they enjoy the act of love, they decided to keep quiet. One in five women did not feel at all comfortable expressing their desires and one in ten had never felt that their sexual partner was interested in her desires.
2. Better sex for women when they hear the word “clitoris”
Clitoral irritation is not the only way to have sexual pleasure, but it is very effective. The above research also revealed that women who openly heard the word “clitoris” from their partners, said they were more satisfied sexually and were less likely to pretend to have an orgasm. The intimacy thus ensured, paves the way for greater and mutual enjoyment, according to experts.
3. Not all orgasms are good
Orgasm does not necessarily mean success in sex nor does it guarantee pleasure. In another study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, 55% of respondents said they had had a “bad orgasm” at least once, for cases where there was physical pain at orgasm or the orgasm was not as good as in the past.
4. People in a relationship have less sex
Scientists call it sexual recession and it is observed mainly in married relationships or couples who live together. According to a survey published in the BMJ, in 2001 38% of women and 30% of men in formal relationships did not have sexual intercourse in the last month. In 2012, the number increased to 51% and 66% respectively. Even in sexually active couples, however, reduced sexual intercourse was evident: 48% of women and 50% of men in formal monogamous relationships had sex less than once a week.
5. Devotion and better sex go together
According to a study published in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, couples who had a satisfying sex life felt more committed and committed from one week to the next. Similarly, one week of intense devotion was accompanied by another week of good sex. In other words, good sex brings intimacy and this in turn leads to more sex.
6. Sex decreases over time
More than half of middle-aged people aged 55 to 74 say they are dissatisfied with their sex life and not because their sexual desire has decreased, according to a survey published in PLOS ONE. Another Menopause study, which focused on women, found that 78% of the 4,000 women surveyed said they were sexually inactive due to various health problems or erectile dysfunction in their partner.
